What are your thoughts on the Bible verses Revelation 21:15-21?

“And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.” Revelation 21:15-21

The New Jerusalem, which is also called the Tabernacle of God, the Holy City, the City of God, the Celestial City, the City Foursquare, and Heavenly Jerusalem, is literally God’s house in heaven moved to the Earth. It is referred to in the Bible in several places (Galatians 4:26; Hebrews 11:10; 12:22–24; and 13:14), but it is most fully described in Revelation 21.

In Revelation 21, the recorded history of man is at its end. All of the ages have come and gone. Christ has gathered His church in what Christians refer to as the Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:15–17). The Tribulation has passed (Revelation 6—18). The battle of Armageddon has been fought and won by Jesus the Christ (Revelation 19:17–21). Satan has been chained for the 1,000-year reign of Christ on Earth (Revelation 20:1–3). A new temple has been established in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40—48). The final rebellion against God, Jesus and the remaining faithful who were not deceived by Satan after his release from prison has been quashed, and Satan has received his just punishment, an eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:7–10.) The Great White Throne Judgment has taken place, and mankind has been judged (Revelation 20:11–15).

In Revelation 21:1 God creates an entirely new Heaven and Earth “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”Isaiah 65:17; (2 Peter 3:12–13). The New Heaven and New Earth are what some call the “eternal state” and will be “where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13). After the new-creation, God reveals the New Jerusalem which comes down from Heaven, which God actually created prior to the foundations of the world and man being placed on the planet in the Garden.

“inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” Matthew 25:34

The New Jerusalem was created at the same time God created the foundations of the world. The foundations of the world were created some time after God created the Angels. The foundations of the earth is everything God created in and around the Earth in order to sustain life. The amount of oxygen in the atmosphere, the rotation of the Earth, the magnetic poles, gravity, the amount of lightning strikes that infuses nitrogen in to soil, the axis of the Earth etc. There are 122 of these foundations or anthropic constants, that are independent while being interdependent.

The Angels were present when God fastened these foundations of the Earth and laid the cornerstone for it (Job 38:6-7). It was some time after all that, when God prepared this New Jerusalem in Heaven for mankind which predates man. (Revelation 21:10-27).

This is the city that Abraham looked for in faith (Hebrews 11:10). It is the place where God will dwell with His people in physical personage (Revelation 21:3). The New Jerusalem will be an enormous scale.

“And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.” Revelation 21:16–17

The city is equal distance in length as it is in width, a perfect square.

“And he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs” One furlong is six hundred feet, as a Greek measurement.

“The length and breadth and height of it are equal” Twelve thousand furlongs is fifteen hundred miles. The length, width and height are all 1500 miles. That’s 1500 square miles. The walls are 1500 miles high while the thickness of the walls are 1500 miles. The distance from Los Angeles California to St Louis Missouri is 1589 miles as the crow flies, or New York to Houston Texas is 1420 miles, San Francisco to Minneapolis is 1584. Either way, the area is massive for what would be a SINGLE fenced in house.

“And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.” Revelation 21:17

A cubit measures from the hand to the elbow joint, approximately a foot and a half, or eighteen inches. That is what is referred to as the measure of a man. When he says “of the Angel” it means that the Angel did the measuring and calculated the measurements in human terms, or cubits.

The wall around the 1500 miles of the city is two thousand, six hundred, twenty two feet high (2,622 feet).

“And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass” Revelation 21:18

The 2,622 foot wall around the outer walls of the city, is made of pure jasper.

This gold is beyond the purity designations of what humans consider as pure gold. It is translucent, see through, nothing man has ever seen before. The entire city is made out of this gold.

“And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald” Revelation 21:19

The first foundation is made up of the same Jasper stone as the outer walls around the City. The foundations are NOT encrusted with stones, or garnished as the modern use of the word garnished is used, as in trim. Each foundation is made up of a single solid stone that is 1500 miles square. What John means by the term ‘garnished’ is that there are several stones, but each stone is in and of itself comprised of a singular stone. The word garnish in Greek is “Kosmeo” Kos-meh-o, meaning decorate, adorn, trim, orderly arrangement.

“The second sapphire” a gem-stone. “The third Chalcedony” a metal, like brass or copper, and “The fourth an Emerald” which is a gem-stone green in color.

“The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst”Revelation 21:20

Sardonyx is an onyx stone, usually black. Sardius, a gem-stone, Chrysolite a gold colored stone, Chrysoprasus “a greenish yellow stone, Jacinth a Zircon, a deep blue gem-stone.

“And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass” Revelation 21:21

These 12 gates are attached to the walls outside the city, each gate is cut from a single pearl and is 2622 feet high, the height of the walls. The word “several” in Greek is “Idios” Id-ee-os, meaning their own, one’s own. This means that each gate itself was made of one solid piece of pearl of its own.

The city streets are as translucent as the city itself. This would mean that to look down on the ground is to look through to the foundations.
